Welcome to South Gate

As the new owner of The South Gate Cafe, Bank Lane Bistro and Bakery let me thank you for coming to our restaurant. Larry and Maggie Ross, their family and staff have graciously been serving the city of Lake Forest for over 30 years and we look forward to continuing that tradition.

Soon you will start seeing some changes as we work to add to your dining experience. The first change we're excited about is to introduce our new chef, David Jarvis. His name may ring familiar. David spent ten years as executive chef at The Chicago Club and prior to that was the chef/owner of Mélange in Wilmette and Northfield. David brings years of top notch culinary experience, a passion for seasonal and locally sourced products, and a keen understanding of you, the North Shore diner.

Our goal is to keep the charm and classics of the old South Gate and its sister restaurants while bringing new flavors, menus and atmosphere to the building. We’re looking forward to you dining with us.
